Air quality Update on 1st quarter 2017 for Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City*

VSEA member Green Innovation and Development Center (GreenID) updated the air quality status report for the first quarter of 2017 based on public available data from U.S. Embassy and U.S. Consulate continung monitoring air quality in Vietnam. The air quality in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City has been worse in the first quarter of 2017 compared to last year’s data*. For the full analysis please check GreenID air quality update Q1 2017


The air quality in Ho Chi Minh City is still way better compared to Hanoi, however getting worse compared to 2016. With an average AQI of 101 (86 AQI for 2016) and an average PM2.5 concentration of 35.8 μg/m3 (28.3 μg/m3 for 2016) the air pollution get worse in the first quarter of 2017 and changing the AQI section from moderate in 2016 to “unhealthy for sensitive groups” in the first quarter of 2017. So far the peak of air pollution in HO Chi Minh City was reached with 95 μg/m3 on the 19 th of January. Full analysis for Ho Chi Minh City...


With an average Air quality index (AQI) of 123 (121 AQI for 2016) and an average PM2.5 concentration of 54,6 μg/m3 (50.5 μg/m3 for 2016) the air quality in Hanoi is slightly decreasing in the first quarter of 2017 and remains in the AQI section “unhealthy for sensitive groups”. On more than 50% of the days in the first quarter (37 out of 90 days) the national regulation of 50 μg/m3 was exceeded. So far the peak of air pollution in Hanoi was reached with 234 μg/m3 on the 15th of February at 11am. Full analysis for Hanoi..
